We tell the stories: why fanfic matters
Hari Patience, Accenture
As long as there has been published fiction there has been fan fiction. And as long as there has been fan fiction, people have sneered at it.
And they continue to sneer at it.
But, aside from the pure joy that is reading good fan fiction, there’s a lot we can learn from it. Both as a creative exercise, and as a reflection of the changing face of media.
This session will provide an introduction to fan fiction tropes and trends, the role of gender in fandom, and what the recent Hugo win for An Archive Of Our Own might mean for the future of fanfic.
